PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "ABIDE WITH ME!" Luke 24:29 ABIDE WITH ME! Luke 24:29 – Devotional Luke 24:29 “But they constrained Him, saying, ‘Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent.’ And He went in to tarry with them.” If you knew that you were very near the end of your life, what would you write? The author of this week’s hymn, Henry F. Lyle, was preaching his final sermon to the small congregation he had served for over 20 years. He was so weak that he had to be helped to the pulpit. He encouraged his parishioners to rely on the Savior who loved them enough to die for them. His prayer, reflected in this hymn, is a prayer that each of us can breathe when we approach the valley of death. ABIDE WITH ME 1. Abide with me—fast falls the eventide; The darkness deepens—Lord, with me abide; When other helpers fail and comforts flee, Help of the helpless, O abide with me! 2. Swift to its close ebbs out life’s little day; Earth’s joys gro
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "PLUMBING PROBLEMS?!" Romans 8:28 PLUMBING PROBLEMS?! Romans 8:28 – Devotional Romans 8:28 “And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.” Years ago I received a call from a dear pastor friend. He explained that he had been having plumbing problems at his house and the estimate he received indicated it was going to cost him something over $400. Ouch! When he started calling friends for recommendations about who to call to make the repairs, one name kept coming up. Each time he was told that the man was very independent and may not even want to do the work … and if he did, it would be very costly. Reluctantly my pastor friend made the call to the recommended plumber who was just as he had been described. He was insulting about spiritual things but surprisingly agreed to do the work. When he arrived, however, it seemed he was more interested in findi
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "WHERE DID THEY GO?" 1 Corinthians 15:52 WHERE DID THEY GO? 1 Corinthians 15:52 – Devotional 1 Corinthians 15:52 “In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.” Many years ago I sat enthralled as I listened to Rev. Tim Lahaye speak on the rapture of the church. It later became the topic of his book series and movie which we know as Left Behind. I am convinced that there will come a day when the Lord will call His church to meet Him in the air, and so shall we ever be with Him for all eternity. The signs Jesus said to look for are detailed in Matthew 24. If you study this chapter you will find a description of what our modern day society looks like. I have personally tried to prepare messages in the form of letters and e-mails for those who are left behind after the church has been raptured. I have urged those who happe
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: “A CLEAN HEART!” Psalm 51:10 A CLEAN HEART! Psalm 51:10 – Devotional Psalm 51:10 “Create in me a clean heart, O God and renew a steadfast spirit within me.” How clean are you? Do you truly possess a steadfast spirit? Are you open to the Lord doing the work that only He can do to mold you into the person He desires for you to be in serving Him? How many spiritual failures have you experienced just because you were just too busy with your own personal pursuits? Let me ask yet another penetrating question. Have you ever made a commitment to pray for someone, then after days, weeks, or even months, realize that you have failed to follow through? It’s getting a little uncomfortable isn’t it! It is easy to see the faults of others while at the same time ignoring our own short comings. I think that the more easily we find fault in others, the easier it is to overlook the lack of trust in our own lives. There have been many times that people hav
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: “A FRESH VISION!” Proverbs 29:18 A FRESH VISION! Proverbs 29:18 – Devotional Proverbs 29:18 “- – happy is the one who keeps the law.” Many assembly line workers become lethargic and even ineffective since they are required to perform the same menial task over and over again. To remedy this situation, some companies have assembly line workers go through the entire production process, showing them the vital part each worker plays in getting the product to its successful completion. Our “eyes” can frequently become clouded and distorted. We see with such limited vision that we fail to see the final completion. God sees the end from the beginning and that is why it is imperative for us to search our Bible to see God’s plans. There is a portion of the Bible that is frequently neglected — the concordance. It should become a regular practice to go to a concordance (even the one at the rear of our Bible) and find references to key words. We wil

PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "THE LORD IS IN CONTROL!" – Proverbs 16:1-3 THE LORD IS IN CONTROL! Proverbs 16:1-3- Devotional Proverbs 16:1-3 “The preparations of the heart belong to man, but the answer of the tongue is from the Lord. All the ways of a man are pure in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the spirits. Commit your works to the Lord, and your thoughts will be established.” Please click on the “Play” arrow in the above box to hear Pastor Cecil share today’s Evotional. Blessings dear hearts! PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: “UNDER HIS WINGS!” Psalm 17:8 UNDER HIS WINGS! Psalm 17:8 – Devotional Psalm 17:8 “Keep me as the apple of Your eye; Hide me under the shadow of Your wings.”   I once read about a forest service worker who was walking through an area that had just been ravaged by a forest fire. He saw a strange mound and stopped to check it out. To his astonishment it was a mother bird that had been killed by the fire. As he knelt to examine the bird, he heard a peep from under the pile of ashes. When he turned the bird over he found several chicks. Instead of flying to save herself, the mother had sacrificed herself in order to protect her brood from the fire that was sweeping toward them. That is what Jesus has done for us. He wants to shelter us under His wings from the firestorm of life. In 1896, William Cushing wrote the words and Ira Sankey composed the music to the hymn, Under His Wings. Enjoy this featured hymn from GloryScapes. Under His Wings
