 “LOST!”
2 Corinthians 4:3-4
But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them.”

If you have ever been lost you can relate to the helpless feeling of not knowing which way to turn to find deliverance. Usually I have very little trouble finding my way, but there was one time when a hunting trip turned into an ordeal.

My hunting partner and I had spent many hours watching pronghorn antelope. We were not hunting them, but rather enjoying observing these amazing animals. In our preoccupation with observing them we got turned around.

Hoping to locate our car, we separated and each went in a slightly different direction. After over an hour of walking over volcanic rock, I located a group of hunters. They knew where we had left our car and drove me there, which was actually several miles away. Without their help I would have been in deep trouble. My friend also found his way back to the car.

There are many souls in our world that discover they are lost. The problem is that without counsel they often head in the wrong direction. God’s way is the only way to heaven. Never listen to other lost people who try to give you directions.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

 “HEAVEN BOUND!”
Acts 7:55
“But he, being full of the Holy Ghost, looked up stedfastly into heaven, and saw the glory of God, and Jesus standing on the right hand of God.”

In the King James Version of the bible the word heaven is mentioned 582 times in 550 verses. That makes it a well documented location in scripture. The problem is in knowing how to get there. This week I will be dealing with the issue of insuring we know for certain we are heaven bound.

It is tragic that so many people who have little or no concern about spiritual matters are sure they will be going to heaven. They convince themselves that just because they want to go there, that is where they will go.

Hollywood and fiction writers have performed a horrible disservice by depicting that entry into heaven is gained by doing more good deeds than bad ones. It has even been expressed as a book showing which outweighs the other. More good you go to heaven; more bad you go to hell.

I want to take the time this week to show what the bible says about what is necessary to gain entrance into God’s glorious heaven. I urge you to invite your friends and family to travel with us to show God’s requirement for entry.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“CLOSE TO THEE!”
Ruth 2:8
Then Boaz said to Ruth, “You will listen, my daughter, will you not? Do not go to glean in another field, nor go from here, but stay close by my young women.

It is hard to make a list of beloved hymns without encountering Fanny J. Crosby. This blind little lady composed well over 8,000 hymns and poems in her life. It is sad that many churches never sing these songs anymore. They are the losers!

As I think about the life of Fanny J. Crosby I am humbled. With her physical limitations she expressed her longing to be more and more like the Master she served. This hymn seems to highlight her aim to draw closer to Him.

In today’s Scripture, Boaz instructed Ruth to stay near the women who worked for him. He was her kinsman redeemer even though she did not know it. Christ is our Kinsman Redeemer and we know it because the Bible tells us so. Are we like Fanny J. Crosby having a desire to be closer to Him?

CLOSE TO THEE

Thou my everlasting portion,
More than friend or life to me,
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.

Refrain:Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.

Not for ease or worldly pleasure,
Nor for fame my prayer shall be;
Gladly will I toil and suffer,
Only let me walk with Thee.

Refrain:Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.

Lead me through the vale of shadows,
Bear me o’er life’s fitful sea;
Then the gate of life eternal
May I enter, Lord, with Thee.

Refrain:Close to Thee, close to Thee,
Close to Thee, close to Thee;
All along my pilgrim journey,
Savior, let me walk with Thee.

MINISTRY UPDATE NEWSLETTER
CLICK HERE:

Dear Friends,

Since Joyce died in January 2015, I made a commitment to turn my grief into positive ministries.

God has richly blessed me with open doors of service beyond anything I have ever experienced before. I am including a current report of what God is allowing me to accomplish.

I am pastor of Tumwater Chapel of Grace. It is a small congregation that meets in a funeral chapel. Over the years I have been called upon to officiate at hundreds of funerals. It allows me to minister to families at a critical time in their life.

Our small congregation has had a profound ministry in reaching into prisons and assisting individuals and families that are destitute. Since October 2000 I send out a Daily-E-Votional to thousands of subscribers five days a week. In addition, I record a daily reading that covers the bible in one year. I also have started recording a weekly sermon that I send out on Saturday and Sunday. I have written and published five books in the past 18 months and if my memory is correct that makes a total of eight books.

The important thing is for each of us to share Jesus and His love with everyone we meet.  Please greet one another with the sweet spirit of love that I feel for each of you. I may not be able to see you personally in this life, but I eagerly look forward to a wonderful “Homecoming Celebration” that will continue through eternity.

Blessings dear hearts!

 “OUR GIFT OF SUFFERING!”
Philippians 1:29
“For to you it has been granted on behalf of Christ, not only to believe in Him, but also to suffer for His sake.”

If there happened to be a check-out line to purchase spiritual gifts, I am sure that suffering would not one of the most popular items in our cart. Be that as it may, in today’s Scripture suffering is presented as a gift.

As I read the words that Paul penned to the church at Philippi I am always reminded of the words of Jesus in Matthew 5. It was part of His Sermon On the Mount; in fact it was part of what we call the Beatitudes:
 Blessed are those who are persecuted for righteousness’ sake, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.”

Is it possible that we have our eyes so focused on receiving only good things that we ignore the importance of laying our lives down for Christ? We may not be called upon to experience physical pain or death, but it is possible to suffer ridicule or humiliation at the hands of those who reject Christ.

Whether it is physical or emotional death, we need to accept the way we are treated as our special gift from God. There will come a time when the struggles of this life will end and the ages of eternal bliss will erase every tear from our eyes. Until that day comes when Jesus calls us home, let us receive the gift to suffer for Him.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

 “WHAT TO SHUN!”
2 Timothy 2:16
But shun profane and idle babblings, for they will increase to more ungodliness.

If you were writing a letter to your son or daughter and knew that it might be the last words you would ever share with them, what would you say? What would you want them to remember above everything else?

I can recall one of the last conversations I had with my dad. He had been my hero throughout my life and I cherished his wise counsel. He said; “Son when I am gone I want you to remember to tell everyone that I love the Lord and when He is ready to take me home, I am ready to go.”

Dad was never one to spend his time in useless arguments. He had a focus on things that were eternal. He only had an 8th grade education, but his wisdom was far beyond many who had advanced degrees.

The “profane and idle babblings” that Paul mentions are things that can occupy our time and attention and lead us away from God rather than a closer walk with Him. I want to avoid these arguments and debates in order to stay close to the Lord.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

 “SIMPLICITY!”
1 Thessalonians 1:5
Because our gospel came to you not simply with words, but also with power, with the Holy Spirit and with deep conviction.

I want to confess that I am not a deep theologian who has profound knowledge of the writings of learned biblical scholars. I simply feel that the Lord has called me to study, think, and pray on the things that are written in the precious Word of God until they become real to me. Then, and only then, I try to present them in a manner that is simple, real, and true to the Word

When I was stationed in Missouri with the USAF, I had many conversations with a dear pastor, Rev. Frank Meyers, in Warrensburg, Missouri. He shared that his first pastorate was in St. Joseph, Missouri, near a large meat packing company where a certain member of his congregation worked. This elderly meat packer had at best a third-grade education.  Each day he got off at 3:00 p.m. and would head for the pastor's study.  Frank said that old man with a limited education (by the world's standards) taught him more about the true Word of God than all of his highly educated professors in college and seminary. I want to be like that old unknown meat packer.

Just remember that it is the Lord that takes this poor preacher’s ramblings to show you that God loves you, knows exactly what you feel, and has a plan for your good and His glory. I encourage you to read the book of I Thessalonians.  If you can, read it all the way through at one sitting.  It will bless you!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

 “SERVING!”
Psalm 84:10
“For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God than dwell in the tents of wickedness.”

Back in the 1960’s while serving in the Air Force, I was stationed in Shreveport, Louisiana. It was during this time that our family was introduced to the Bible Memory Association. All five of us memorized faithfully and recited each week.

As a culmination of memorizing for an entire year, the young people were rewarded with a week at camp held in Ringgold, Louisiana. One of the unique features of the camp was the Order of Whitefoot. This honor was only given to BMA campers who had memorized for at least two years and had attended camp.

Additionally, only those who had received the Order of Whitefoot were given the special privilege of serving. Only the Whitefeet were allowed to scrub floors and empty trash. Only they were permitted to do the menial tasks that are usually dreaded.

The story is told of the world famous evangelist D.L. Moody who had invited a large number of ministers for a conference. He noticed that many had placed their shoes outside their doors to have them shined. Not wanting to embarrass them, Moody shined the shoes himself. The guests were abashed when they discovered their presumption.
I want to be more like Moody and the Order of the Whitefoot and serve others.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

Philippians 2:1-4
1 Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, 2 fulfill my joy by being like-minded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. 3 Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. 4 Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.
Blessings dear hearts!

“I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY!”
Matthew 28:19-20
Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all things that I have commanded you; and lo, I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” Amen.

I was born in 1934 to a humble working class family in the United States. One hundred years earlier, Katherine Hankey was born to a wealthy family in England. Katherine found great joy in sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ with others. She conducted Bible studies all over the city of London.

At age 30, Katherine experienced medical problems that prevented her from leading her Bible studies for one year. It was during that year of rehabilitation that she wrote a long poem about her Jesus. The last part of her poem contains the words of this week’s hymn. The music was composed by William Fisher.

I LOVE TO TELL THE STORY

I love to tell the story of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory, of Jesus and His love;
I love to tell the story, because I know ‘tis true.,
It satisfies my longing as nothing else can do.

Refrain: I love to tell the story, ‘Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story, of Jesus and His love

I love to tell the story, more wonderful it seems,
Than all the golden fancies, of all our golden dreams;
I love to tell the story, it did so much for me,
And that is just the reason I tell it now to thee.

Refrain: I love to tell the story, ‘Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story, of Jesus and His love

I love to tell the story, ‘tis pleasant to repeat,
What seems each time I tell it more wonderfully sweet;
I love to tell the story, for some have never heard,
The message of salvation from God’s own holy Word.

Refrain: I love to tell the story, ‘Twill be my theme in glory,
To tell the old, old story, of Jesus and His love

I love to tell the story, for those who know it best,
Seem hungering and thirsting to hear it like the rest;
And when in scenes of glory I sing the new, new song,
‘Twill be the old, old story that I have loved so long.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

 “FOCUS!”
Psalm 119:18
Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things from Your law.”

One of the things that I dislike the most about having my eyes examined is when the optometrist adjusts the machine until it's out of focus and then wants me to say when it comes back into focus. It seems to me that the examiner should be able to tell me what is in focus rather than me being required to do it. Oh, well, life is hard!

Spiritually we are called to keep our focus on the Lord. It is far too easy for us to allow our vision to be distorted by the things of the world to the extent that we are not able to properly see things that God wants us to see.

In a world that is increasingly perverted, it becomes more and more likely that people get out of focus. What God’s Word says is wrong is now deemed to be right and what is right according to the Word is seen as out of step, if not biased.

God’s children have often times been required to pay with their lives because they were committed to keeping the right spiritual focus. I pray that we never have to suffer for Christ, but if we do I pray we will be strong and never distort the gospel.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
