“BECOME LOVE!”
1 Corinthians 13:4-7
Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up; does not behave rudely, does not seek its own, is not provoked, thinks no evil; does not rejoice in iniquity, but rejoices in the truth; bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.”

You may have heard the story of the young man who was composing a love note to his sweetheart. He vowed that he would climb the highest mountain, swim the widest river, and fight the most ferocious beast to prove his love for her. At the bottom of the note he added a P.S. “I will come and see you Sunday if it does not rain.”  Oops!
I once heard my dear friend, Pastor Chuck Higgins, preach from this passage in 1 Corinthians. He started out by simply reading the familiar verses. He then read it a second time and replaced the word love with the name Jesus. It fit perfectly. But Pastor Higgins was not finished.
He read it a third time and replaced the word love with the name Charles E. Higgins. We all laughed nervously as we realized that it would be difficult to live up to the scriptures' description of love. But he was still not finished. He asked each of us to silently read the passage and replace the word love with our own name. It became strangely silent in that room.
I would like to challenge you to read this passage and insert your own name. From this moment on try to make the description fit the way you live your life.
Blessings dear hearts!  Walk with God today and be a blessing!

“ALL I NEED TO KNOW!”
2 Corinthians 12:10
Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

Back in the 1970’s I seemed to have it made. I was Deputy Director of the Idaho Law Enforcement Planning Commission. The position paid well and I was offered a similar position with a Federal agency. But God had other plans for me.
I felt God’s call and took a part-time position with my home church. The pay was less and the hours longer, but it was God’s call and I could only obey. Since that time I have felt weak and inadequate, but it is in those times that I have most felt the power of God. It was not what I did, but what God did through me.
There came a time in my life when I felt that retirement was something to look forward to. I actually passed retirement age many years ago and now I am busier and my ministry is more fruitful than when I was young and strong.
Why is that? I think the answer is that it is not my strength or ability, but God flowing through me. The less I am able to do, the more He is able to do through me. “Do you feel me?”
If you feel too weak or too inadequate to do work for the Lord—start praising the Lord. That is when His power and glory can be displayed. It is when we are weak that His strength is revealed! Thank God for the difficulties and watch Him work!
Blessings dear hearts!  Walk with God today and be a blessing!

“ASK WITH THANKS!”
Philippians 4:6-7
Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

I was taught to always say please and thank you. Have I always done that?  No! To my shame I have at times fallen short of that aim. Even so, my desire is to strive toward the goal of living a life of thanks and praise.
LISTEN!  Rejoicing is not an option, but rather an imperative.  We are to be a people who rejoice!  That means to get a smile on our face.  You might have the joy of Jesus down in your heart, but you had better let your face know about it.  That is what others will see.

You know what comes to my mind right now?  I see the saints of God across the ages who had the joy and rejoicing in their hearts, even during times of deep distress.  They rejoiced even as the flames consumed them, or the lions devoured them, or the soldiers of the enemy slew them with the sword.

Were their prayers heard?  I believe they were.  I believe they are with all of the departed saints of God right now, experiencing utter joy.  "It is joy unspeakable and full of glory, and the half has never yet been told!"

Blessings dear hearts!  Walk with God today and be a blessing!

“QUARANTINE!
Isaiah 26:20-21
“Come, my people, enter your chambers and shut your doors behind you; hide yourself, as it were, for a little moment, until the indignation is past. For behold, the Lord comes out of His place to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their iniquity; the earth will also disclose her blood, and will no more cover her slain.

My dear friend Mike Keller shared today’s Scripture with me. We discussed the way God uses these “time outs” to show the peoples of the world just how little control we have over our lives.

There is one thing I am more and more mindful about — we are all destined to die (unless the Lord takes us to be with Him in the rapture). Reading the obituary columns from any newspaper across the world will reveal that young or old, rich or poor, famous or unknown —we are all destined to die.

During His earthly ministry the Lord raised Lazarus from the dead. But there did come a time (we are not told where or when) that Lazarus did die. Hebrews 9:27 reminds us: “It is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment.”

This current time of quarantine and restriction will end, but there is day coming when we will be called to meet the Lord. Are you ready?!

Blessings dear hearts.  May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“BLESSED ASSURANCE!”
Hebrews 10:22
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.”

Those of us who have said farewell to beloved family and friends know and experience the pangs of separation. The pain of separation is eased with the assurance that there is a bright tomorrow waiting for us when we will be united with those who have died in the Lord.

Fanny J. Crosby was visiting the home of a friend, Phoebe Knapp. Phoebe was playing a new melody she had just composed and mentioned to Fanny that she called it Assurance. Fanny responded, “Blessed Assurance.”

Blessed Assurance - Praise 2 from GloryScapes on Vimeo.
Fanny returned home and quickly penned the words to the hymn that has become such a favorite since it was published way back in 1873. It is just as much a blessed assurance today as it was back then.

BLESSED ASSURANCE

(1) Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

(2) Perfect submission, perfect delight!
     Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
     Angels descending bring from above,
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

(3) Perfect submission, all is at rest!
I in my Savior am happy and blest,
     Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love.

Refrain:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

“WHERE DID THEY GO?”
1 Corinthians 15:52
“In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.”

Many years ago I sat enthralled as I listened to Rev. Tim Lahaye speak on the rapture of the church. It later became the topic of his book series and movie which we know as Left Behind.
I am convinced that there will come a day when the Lord will call His church to meet Him in the air, and so shall we ever be with Him for all eternity. The signs Jesus said to look for are detailed in Matthew 24. If you study this chapter you will find a description of what our modern day society looks like.
I have personally tried to prepare messages in the form of letters and e-mails for those who are left behind after the church has been raptured. I have urged those who happen to find these messages to read God’s Word to find the answer to what has happened.
The terrible time of trouble and tribulation that awaits those who have been left behind can be eased by the realization that there will still be time for them to repent and accept the gift of salvation that Jesus offers. Oh, how much better it will be for them to escape the terrible time of tribulation that awaits those who have failed to accept this gift before the rapture. Pass the word!
Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“PRESSING UPWARD!”
Philippians 3:14
“I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

I recall once being given a button with the initials PBPGINFWMY. They stood for the phrase PLEASE BE PATIENT GOD IS NOT FINISHED WITH ME YET. I think the Apostle Paul echoes this sentiment in the third chapter of Philippians.
The giants of the faith never claimed to be perfect. In fact they have been quick to admit they are constantly in need of God’s redeeming grace. All we like sheep have gone astray. I wish it were not so, but it is a spiritual reality.
I take great encouragement in the fact that Paul confesses his personal need for continual spiritual growth and renewal. If Paul needed a closer walk with the Lord I assure you that I need it even more so.
God never calls us to be perfect little saints; I failed at that long ago. He calls us to consistently be pressing upward toward the goal of being more Christ-like. That is the greatest achievement for us to strive to attain in this journey through life. There will come a day when we will be called to be eternally with the Lord. If you are like me you yearn to hear the Master say, "Well done, good and faithful servant!"
Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“STANDING OR SITTING?”
Ephesians 6:13
“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.”

I often recall this old saying: If you are not standing on the promises, you will find yourself sitting on the premises. Standing is an active process of involvement; sitting is a passive pastime of taking up space but contributing very little. The gripers, moaners, and fault finders of the world are generally composed of those who are just sitting on God’s premises.
A long time ago I read about a man who was traveling across the Atlantic on a ship. He could just barely scrape up the money for his ticket and a few provisions to eat on during the trip. A few days after he ran out of food he knew he had to do something. He summoned up all of his courage and went to a steward and asked if he might be able to do some work so he could be able to eat a meal or two. The steward, startled by the destitute passenger's request, explained to him that the ticket he had purchased included all the food he could eat during the voyage. It was his all along, but he was literally starving because of the lack of knowledge of what he possessed.

Many of us have that traveler's problem. He didn't read his ticket and we don't read our Bible! It is just as simple as that. God has given us His very great and precious promises. They are given to us so that we might stand tall for the Lord.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
