“A DELICATE TOUCH!”

Proverbs 3:5-6

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths.

The first time I flew in a private aircraft I was blown away at the view I had never seen before. It was just me and the pilot, who was a distant cousin of mine. After we had been flying for fifteen or twenty minutes, he told me to take control.

As I moved the wheel the plane responded more sensitively than I had anticipated. Fortunately my cousin had his own control and we were quickly back on an even keel. He allowed me to retake control and demonstrated that a soft touch on the wheel is all that is required.

Many times in flying with the Lord we are like I was on that day so long ago when I flew with my cousin. We dip and dart because we have not learned the secret of a delicate touch.

It is well for us to stop and evaluate our walk with the Lord. Are we using too strong a control of our actions? Do we dip and dart instead of allowing our Lord to tenderly cover our hands on the control of our life? As we fly with the Lord we will learn the value of a delicate touch in many areas of our life.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“SPIRITUAL PRIDE!”

1 Peter 5:6-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Today’s scripture is the same as yesterdays. That is not an omission, but rather my intention. I have been reminded about how easy it is to think more highly of ourselves than we ought.

As an Air Force officer I had been assigned to a new location. Our family had moved into a new home and on our first Sunday we decided to attend a small church not too far away.

I have to confess that I was filled with confidence concerning my knowledge of scripture. After all, I had graduated from a Christian College and had been attending church and Sunday school since I was knee high to a grass hopper.

In just a few minutes the questions and responses revealed that these people were far more steeped in God’s Word than me. I spent the rest of the class session praying that I would not be called upon to answer a question. That first class session taught me humility and drove me to spend far more time in God’s precious word. Thank you Lord for teaching me to rely upon You!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“LET GOD DRIVE!”

1 Peter 5:6-7

Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Our eagerness to be the one to operate a motor vehicle is an object lesson to teach us about our spiritual life—WE WANT TO DRIVE!  We may not be qualified or adequately aware of the hazards which may lie up ahead, but we still want to take control.

The Apostle Peter tells us to demonstrate humility. While this is a quality that is greatly prized by writers of Scripture, unfortunately it is not esteemed in our society. We are more prone to see strutting, swaggering, and bragging.

Micah 6:8 reveals God’s pattern for us “He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” These words in Micah are words of instruction for the daily walk of the believer.

That, my dear friend, is cutting to the bottom line.  If you really and truly desire to find a peace with God, do things God's way and live in harmony with those around you. It is God’s way - - - LET GOD DRIVE!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

MARCH 26, 2021

“THE SWEET BY AND BY!”

Matthew 6:27

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.”

True Christian character is certainly seen in our biblical heroes, but it may often be seen in those of more recent times. Hope is a character quality that looks beyond our immediate circumstances and shows what we as believers have waiting for us.

In the Sweet By and By is one of the most enduring songs written after the Civil War. It was composed by Sanford Bennett who was the owner of a drugstore in Elkhorn, Wisconsin. He had just returned from the war. A friend, Joseph Webster, a gifted musician trained formally in composition, came to the store each day to talk and play chess. Often Webster would be depressed and down.

When asked what was wrong, Webster would often reply; “It will be alright by and by.” That idea hit Bennett like a flash of sunlight! As Bennett later described the incident, he took out a pen and it was all over in thirty minutes. A new hymn was born. In short order he was singing the words along with Webster and two other friends. That hymn was perfect for the post-Civil War era because it conveyed pathos with a mixture of comforting warmth. It came to typify the virtues of spiritual hope.

Sweet By and By

1. There is a land that is fairer than day,
And by faith we can see it afar;
For the Father waits over the way,
To prepare us a dwelling place there.

ChorusIn the sweet by and by,

We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by;

We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

2. We shall sing on that beautiful shore,
The melodious songs of the blest;
And our spirits shall sorrow no more,
Not a sigh for the blessing of rest.

ChorusIn the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

3. To our bountiful Father above,
We will offer our tribute of praise,
For the glorious gift of His love,
And the blessings that hallow our days.

ChorusIn the sweet by and by,
We shall meet on that beautiful shore;
In the sweet by and by
We shall meet on that beautiful shore.

“PEACE IN TRIBULATION!”

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”

It seems that many, if not most, Christians pray to evade tribulation. The problem is that we are told repeatedly in God’s Word that in this sin-sick world we will have tribulation. That is a given fact. Mark it down.

The real issue is what do true believers do when faced with the inevitable storms of life. The answer is that we are to expect them! Let’s face it - - this world is not a pleasant place. Since the fall of mankind in the Garden, we have been storms and tribulation!

I love the way Jesus promises peace to His believers. It is not a peace the necessarily removes us from the storm, but He promises to be with us in the midst of the storms of our life.

What storm or storms are you facing in your life at the present time? Read today’s Scripture once again and rejoice in the wonderful promise that the Lord gives to us as we wait upon Him for our strength to endure victoriously!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“ONLY ONE WAY!”

Luke 5:32

I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.”

If you were to ask most people on the street if they thought you could be good enough to make it to heaven, most would respond that you could. BEEP! Sorry, but that is an eternally wrong answer!

The Scripture tells us that all of us are sinners and fall short of God’s holy standard of righteousness. We can never be good enough to earn our way to heaven. Contrary to what Hollywood portrays, there is no one waiting at heaven’s portals asking us to justify that our good deeds outweigh our bad deeds.

There is an explanation as to how we can be allowed into God’s eternal heaven. It is by the shed blood of our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is not what we do FOR Him, but what He did for us on the cross that makes heaven possible.

All it took for the repentant thief on the cross to gain entrance into the paradise of God was to ask in faith believing. It is the same for anyone who seeks entrance. There is only one way and it is by way of the shed blood of our Savior. If you are relying on any other source to gain entrance remember there is only one way!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

“A SMART SHEEP!”

Isaiah 53:6

All we like sheep have gone astray; We have turned, every one, to his own way; And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

I worked the graveyard shift on the local police force when I was attending college. For those who are uninformed, it was from 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM.  We had an old sergeant who frequently would come into the station shaking his head and saying: “The more I deal with people, the more I think sheep are smart animals!”

It seems that Isaiah had somewhat of a similar view. The difference is that Isaiah related it to a spiritual condition. The natural tendency with every fallen human being is to reject God’s way and follow our own way.

Across the years I have counseled many criminal offenders who said they had learned their lesson and would never go back to their old behavior patterns. Sad to say, many failed to follow through on their resolve.

The good news is that our behavior is not what is required to find God’s grace for our life. Jesus suffered and bled on that cruel cross in order that His blood would cover our each and every sin. In order to receive this precious gift we only need to confess that we are sinners and invite Jesus to come into our heart. That is being a smart sheep!

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!
