DRIFTING AWAY!

1 Timothy 6:10 – Devotional

1 Timothy 6:10

“For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, which has caused some to stray from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

Many years ago my dad and I were fishing on a small lake in Idaho. We had been contentedly trolling along in his boat when we heard a sputter … and then silence. We suddenly found ourselves adrift in the middle of the lake and not a soul in sight. We drifted for more than an hour before we hailed a passing boat whose owner graciously offered to tow us to shore.

I have often heard people mention that the Bible teaches that money is the root of all evil. That is not what it says. It says that the LOVE of money is the root of all kinds of evil. The sins of the eyes, the sins of the flesh, and the pride of life are pretty inclusive. Getting our eyes off the Savior and on the flash and glitter of worldly things is usually gradual, but lethal.

I pray that each of us will make sure that we do not find ourselves drifting away from the things of eternal importance. The things of this world will only satisfy for a season, but the things of God have eternal value. Don’t drift away!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ALERT DUTY!

Psalm 37:34 – Devotional

Psalm 37:34

“Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it.

When I was in the military there were times when I was assigned to “Alert Duty.” What that implied, was that those of us who were on duty were not sleep, but were to maintain a constant state of readiness. We few would be tasked to alert the other members of the unit who would then spring into action.

In today’s Scripture, the psalmist is calling us to take on the assignment of being on alert. We are to be the watchmen (watchwomen) who keep our eyes open to the threats of the enemy.

Not only are we called to be alert to spiritual danger, but we are also to be aware of the leading of the Lord. When He is working in our midst, we need to rush to His side in order to respond to His call.

Are you on Alert Duty for the Lord? Are you spiritually aware of what God is doing in your midst in order to join with Him in bringing about His purposes? Now is the time to shake off the spiritual slumber and be alert.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

One summer when I was a young boy, we were challenged to memorize key verses in Scripture. One of those verses was Isaiah 41:10. I cannot begin to tell you how many times across the years this verse has been with me.

In today’s world of GPS (Global Positioning System) technology, there is a voice that gives instructions of where to turn and how far to go before giving the next instruction of where to turn and how far to go. I have known drivers that turn their GPS off just to silence that voice.

I come from a day and age where we learned to read maps. When I worked as a milk man it was necessary to use a code to tell how many intersections to cross, when to turn left or right and which house was to receive the home delivery (I am a very old man!).

God gives us assurance that His voice will always strengthen, help, and uphold us as we obediently follow His word and His way. All we need to do is to … FOLLOW THE DIRECTIONS! Do not silence His voice.

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today, trust Him completely and be a blessing!

LOST AND FOUND!

Matthew 10:39 – Devotional

Matthew 10:39

“He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it.

You may have heard the humorous anecdote of a man who commented, “I now must admit that I am a believer in the hereafter. It seems like every time I go from one room to another, I stop and ask myself, ‘What am I here after?’” Ouch! That hits pretty close to home!

Have you ever lost something that has special significance to you? Sometimes it is not the monetary value of a item which makes it precious, but the memories that are associated with it. I recently lost about 20 DVD’s of favorite Christian music that I played before services each Sunday. The only thing I can conclude is that they were accidentally thrown away in the trash after a potluck dinner.

Let’s face it — the most precious things in this world will someday be lost in one way or another. If we base our happiness and contentment on the things of this world, we will experience disappointment when they are lost, as eventually they will be.

Today’s Scripture tells us that if we grasp and hold on to the things of this life, we will lose them. But when we lose our life and the things of this life, we will find LIFE … real life. That is what I want to seek and hold onto!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

ASSURANCE!

Isaiah 41:10 – Devotional

Isaiah 41:10

“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

Today’s verse is one of the first verses I ever memorized. Come to think about it, it may very well be the reason that I am known as more optimistic than pessimistic. It is not me, but the Lord that makes the difference.

God gives us a tremendous promise in this verse. He promises to strengthen us, to help us and to uphold us. Do you realize what that promise should mean to each of us in our daily walk? It means that we can claim victory over every situation.

As I read this verse again, I see that our requirement is very minimal. We are not called upon to do great and mighty works. We do not even have to possess super human abilities.

So what is our part? Do not fear and Do not be dismayed. The reason the Scripture gives us for not fearing or not being dismayed is that God is with us and He is our own personal God. With such a powerful God in control we are free to praise Him and give Him the glory and that my dear friend is ASSURANCE!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!
