“WHEN WE ALL GET TO HEAVEN!
I Thessalonians 4:17-18
After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words.
Though an invalid for much of her life, Eliza Edmunds Hewitt was always active and enjoyed a long personal friendship with Fanny Crosby. These two women met often for fellowship and discussion of their new hymns. Eliza was a school teacher in Philadelphia and a Christian lay worker who was committed to write songs to teach children the basic truths of the gospel. This song was written for her own Sunday school class in Philadelphia.
Miss Hewitt often attended the Methodist camp meetings at Ocean Grove, New Jersey. It was here that she collaborated with Emily Wilson, the wife of a Methodist district superintendent in Philadelphia, in the writing of this triumphant gospel hymn--a favorite of young and old alike. "When We All Get to Heaven" was first published in 1898.

When We All Get to Heaven - GloryScapes Comfort from GloryScapes on Vimeo.
1.  Sing the wondrous love of Jesus, Sing His mercy and His grace.
In the mansions bright and blessed He’ll prepare for us a place.
Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

2.  While we walk the pilgrim pathway, Clouds will overspread the sky;
But when traveling days are over, Not a shadow, not a sigh.
Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

3.  Let us then be true and faithful, Trusting, serving every day;
Just one glimpse of Him in glory will the toils of life repay.
Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

4.  Onward to the prize before us! Soon His beauty we’ll behold;
Soon the pearly gates will open; We shall tread the streets of gold.
Refrain: When we all get to Heaven,
What a day of rejoicing that will be!
When we all see Jesus,
We’ll sing and shout the victory!

“REVERSE AGING!”
Job 19:26
“And after my skin is destroyed, this I know, that in my flesh I shall see God.”

I am stunned by the morbid preoccupation of people trying to reverse the aging process. Television ads tout expensive products that are guaranteed to make you look years younger. More and more people are having surgery to nip and tuck the sagging parts into what is supposed to be younger looking flesh. Cosmetic surgery often makes one look like they are wearing a mask and they can hardly smile.
Can I let you in on a little secret? None of us are getting younger. It seems like more and more of my friends and former members of congregations that I served as pastor have slipped into eternity. Those that remain are showing their age! A quick peek into a mirror shocks me at my aging process. I don’t mind. I have a new body waiting for me!
It is sad that with all of the energy and money being spent to prolong the life span that will soon pass away, many give little thought to preparing for a life that will last forever. Job had it right when he says that his skin will be destroyed. His encouragement was that he was going to receive a new and glorified body.
I for one want to devote my few days of this life in serving the Lord who has promised me that He has a new and improved body prepared for me. That is the ultimate way to reverse the aging process. Even so, come quickly, Lord Jesus!
Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

“HIS PRESENCE!”
Psalm 139:7
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Or where can I flee from Your presence?”
Across the years I have had the privilege of experiencing a variety of professions. One of the most memorable was working as a County Juvenile Probation Officer. I had come into the position directly from serving as a city police officer, so I was well acquainted with the patrol officers who worked the night shift.
I frequently rode with one of the officers as he made his rounds and would occasionally spot a juvenile who was part of my caseload. I would note the time, location, and who else was with him. Many times the probationer was on a court-ordered curfew along with a list of individuals not to associate with.
The next time that probationer reported in I would ask if they were adhering to their curfew. The response was usually that they were. I would then ask about the day and time I had observed them. Their look of astonishment was priceless. I would then proceed to take the necessary action that was merited. It wasn’t long before they felt like I was everywhere and they had better keep on the straight and narrow.
In today’s Scripture we see that the Lord is everywhere and He knows all about us. There are no time-outs when it comes to living for the Lord. He knows each and everything about us. That is not a bad thing but is a constant reminder that He is always there when we call. Praise the Lord!

“DECEIVED!”
Jude 1:3
“Beloved, while I was very diligent to write to you concerning our common salvation, I found it necessary to write to you exhorting you to contend earnestly for the faith which was once for all delivered to the saints.”

My heart aches as I think of the vast numbers of people who have been deceived into thinking that they have eternal salvation because they were “christened” or “baptized” as infants. A rudimentary study of the Word of God reveals that this is far from the truth.
Jesus Himself informed the spiritual leader Nicodemus that a new birth was necessary. The words of John 3:16 should be enough to counteract the false teaching of salvation through infant baptism: “...that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life.” Paul echoes this requirement in Romans 10:9: “If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.”
Where does this truth leave the sincere seeker of truth? It leads us to trust in the truth of God’s Word rather than in the deception of false teachers. There is only one way to obtain eternal salvation and that is in confessing that we are sinners in need of salvation and trusting in the shed blood of our precious Savior to make us His own. The repentant thief dying on the cross beside Jesus received eternal life even as his earthly life was drawing to a close. DO NOT BE DECEIVED!

“REMEMBER!”
Jude 1:17
But you, beloved, remember the words which were spoken before by the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

How do you remember things? The answers vary, but they include thinking about them, writing them down, and repeating to yourself those things you do not want to forget, and entering them on a device that will notify you in advance so you will not forget.
About fifty years ago I spent a considerable amount of time faithfully memorizing the book of James. There came a day when I was able to recite the entire five chapters. For several months I would repeat the words that had become a part of my memory bank.
Sad to say, I began to allow other pursuits to occupy my time. They were good things and many of them were involved in ministry, but they disrupted my dedication to the memory work to which I had devoted myself. Today I can only recite very brief portions of the book of James.
There is a phrase in a popular song from the 1940’s --“But you forgot to remember.” On this day when we pause to honor the memory of those who gave so much for us, it should be a time of rededication for each of us. Let us step forward and determine that we will not forget to remember!
