PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "DIRECTIONS PLEASE!" Proverbs 3:5-6 DIRECTIONS PLEASE! Proverbs 3:5-6 – Devotional Proverbs 3:5-6 “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct your paths. “ Asking for directions from a stranger can be a frightening experience. In rural areas the people who live in the area are prone to give simple directions such as buildings, trees, brooks, or other such tangible objects. Then there are the modern day programs that speak through the car radio and inform you what street or highway to take, how far to travel, when you have arrived at your final destination. For believers in the Lord Jesus as our personal Savior, we are assured of the right directions as long as we keep our spiritual eyes on Him instead of being led astray by the appeals of the world to abandon directions from God’s Word. If you are not spending quality time in the study of
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: “OUR ALL!” Matthew 22:37 OUR ALL! Matthew 22:37 – Devotional Matthew 22:37 “Jesus said to him, ‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul and with all your mind.’” Mankind’s natural tendency seems inclined towards always trying to gain something by investing as little as possible. It is like that old story of the young man who was writing a love letter to his sweetheart vowing he would climb the highest mountain for her. He would swim the widest river for her. He would fight a ferocious tiger for her. He closed his letter to the love of his life by promising he would drop by her house on Saturday … “ if  it’s not raining.” Ooops! Far too often we fail to give our entire self to the Lord. We may talk a good talk, but when it comes down to being totally sold out to the Lord, we fail to  walk the talk . The Pharisees tried to find fault in the teachings of Jesus when they asked which was the greatest Command
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: "OTHERS!" Philippians 2:3 OTHERS! Philippians 2:3 – Devotional Philippians 2:3 “Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself.” We live in a dog-eat-dog world that glorifies individual desires above the concern to serve others. Self-help gurus stress the importance of glorifying self regardless of what others think or feel. The message of the cross is one of self-sacrifice for the benefit of others. It is interesting that we do not have to learn self-centered behavior. We come into the world kicking and screaming to be fed or changed at any and all hours of the day or night. We can tolerate that behavior in infants, but sadly we have grown adults that still express that same behavior. I am sad to say that we have Christians who also display this pattern of life. They are not so much interested in serving others but in having others serve them. I a
PASTOR CECIL · Pastor Cecil's Devotional: “JUST A SHADOW!” Psalm 144:4 JUST A SHADOW! Psalm 144:4 – Devotional Psalm 144:4 “Man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow. “ You can stand on a high mountain and view the panorama before you. If you are fortunate, there will be a few clouds and you can see the shadows they cast as they float across the sky. The shadows have no substance to them, but they can either allow the sun to illuminate the landscape, or block its rays from reaching the ground. For someone who is laboring in the heat of the day, the shadows are a relief from the blistering rays. There are times in our life when the shadows of adversity seem to be like the clouds that darken the sky. The result can cause us to become depressed and lose the purpose God wants us to fulfill in serving Him. It is in the shadows of adversity that we need to remind ourselves that the sunlight of God’s love is always shining bright and the clouds will soon pass. Lift up y
