Psalm 37:34 – Devotional Psalm 37:34 “Wait on the Lord, and keep His way, and He shall exalt you to inherit the land; when the wicked are cut off, you shall see it. “ When I was in the military there were times when I was assigned to “Alert Duty.” What that implied, was that those of us who were on duty were not sleep, but were to maintain a constant state of readiness. We few would be tasked to alert the other members of the unit who would then spring into action. In today’s Scripture, the psalmist is calling us to take on the assignment of being on alert. We are to be the watchmen (watchwomen) who keep our eyes open to the threats of the enemy. Not only are we called to be alert to spiritual danger, but we are also to be aware of the leading of the Lord. One of those verses was Isaiah 41:10. I cannot begin to tell you how many times across the years this verse has been with me. In today’s world of GPS (Global Positioning System) technology, there is a voice that gives instructions of where to turn and how far to go before giving the next instruction of where to turn and how far to go. I have known drivers that turn their GPS off just to silence that voice. I come from a day and age where we learned to read maps. When I worked as a milk man it was necessary to use a code to tell how many intersections to cross, when to turn left or right and wh

Matthew 10:39 – Devotional Matthew 10:39 “He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. “ You may have heard the humorous anecdote of a man who commented, “I now must admit that I am a believer in the hereafter. It seems like every time I go from one room to another, I stop and ask myself, ‘What am I here after?’” Ouch! That hits pretty close to home! Have you ever lost something that has special significance to you? Sometimes it is not the monetary value of a item which makes it precious, but the memories that are associated with it. I recently lost about 20 DVD’s of favorite Christian music that I played before services each Sunday. The only thing I can conclude is that they were accidentally thrown away in the trash after a potluck dinner. Come to think about it, it may very well be the reason that I am known as more optimistic than pessimistic. It is not me, but the Lord that makes the difference. God gives us a tremendous promise in this verse. He promises to strengthen us, to help us and to uphold us. Do you realize what that promise should mean to each of us in our daily walk? It means that we can claim victory over every situation. As I read this verse again, I see that our requirement is very minimal. We are not called upon to do great and mighty works.
