THE ONE TO TRUST!

Nahum 1:7 – Devotional

Nahum 1:7

“The LORD is good, a stronghold in the day of trouble; He knows everyone who places their trust in Him.”

In our day and age it is difficult to rely on people who we once placed our confidence in. This applies to those who have been elected to office, trusted with a confidence, or assisted when they were in need of help.

Those who are the closest to us may fail us, but there is one who is closer than a brother. The One we can always trust completely is the One who loved us enough to pay the ultimate price to save us from sin and eternal death.

I am sure all of us have known people who made great promises, but then fell far short of fulfilling those promises. Those experiences can cause us to become cynical and defensive. That is not God’s way!

We always need to place our complete trust in the Lord and then to encourage those around us to also place their trust in Him. We need to become the poster children as faithful followers of Christ! Take a few minutes and review your life. Are you a positive example of a faithful follower of Christ? Be one!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

BE STEADFAST!

1 Corinthians 15:58 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 15:58

“My dearly beloved, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”

I think we all have heard the expression; “When going gets tough, the tough get going!” Do you think that is true? What do we do when we are weak and are forced to confess our weakness? That my friend is when we let go and let God be God!

Sometimes people fail to act because they feel they are unqualified. The fact of the matter is that many great people are not that different than anyone else. The only difference is that they remained steadfast at their task.

Thomas Edison experimented with over 10,000 substances before discovering the answer in tungsten. A reporter asked him that after 9,999 failures was he ready to give up. His response was that he had not had any failures. He only found 9,999 substances that would not do the job.

Being steadfast for the Lord does not focus on the results which are evident to us. It is in being the faithful servant who keeps on doing the work God calls each of us to do and then leaving the results up to Him. Are you steadfast?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WORDS THAT LAST!

Matthew 24:35 – Devotional

Matthew 24:35

“Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away.”

In my mind’s eye I recall our family gathered around the dinner table. I imagine our kids are still at home and we are enjoying a sweet time of sharing. Across the table from me is Joyce, my precious wife. To her right is our oldest daughter, Brenda. Next to Brenda and to my right is our youngest daughter, Lori. On my left and to the right of Joyce is our son, Dan. A wonderful picture . . . but it did not last.

In the blink of an eye it seems, the kids marry and leave home. Grandbabies are born and illness takes my dear wife and both daughters. All three have slipped the bonds of this earth and soared into Paradise. I will never be able to sit around the table with them on this earth, but oh, how I look forward to that day when I will not only see them, but all of my loved ones. Even more wonderful, I will see the Savior who loved me enough to die for me.

C.T. Studd lived from 1860 to 1931. He composed a poem that is now so familiar that many think it is from Scripture. Here is a verse from that poem: “Only one life, ’twill soon be past, Only what’s done for Christ will last. And when I am dying, how happy I’ll be, If the lamp of my life has been burned out for Thee.”

That is the moment in time I fervently anticipate! What a day of rejoicing that will be!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

THE LIGHT OF LIFE!

John 6:12b – Devotional

John 6:12b

“I am the light of the world. The one who follows Me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.

Those of us who have had the experience of being at the bedside of a believer who is about to slip into eternity, know it is sacred ground. It is always a mixture of sadness and joy.

I have often thought of the death of a believer as being somewhat like saying farewell to a traveler who is departing on a ship for some distant port. The journey may be long (even years) or only a few days or weeks, but our loved one will be missed while we are apart.

When Jesus left this world to return to His Father, He knew His disciples would experience loneliness and would need the Light of Life. That wonderful Light of Life is the precious Holy Spirit.

We have the confident assurance that we are never left alone in this dark world. Oh no! We have the glorious Light of Life continually beside us as we travel the journey the Lord leads us through. Enjoy the journey as you light the way for those who walk beside you!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
