“TRUST AND OBEY!”
Psalm 31:1
“In You, O Lord, I put my trust; let me never be ashamed; deliver me in Your righteousness.”
We never know when or how the Lord will choose to use us. We can be going about our regular business when out of the blue a situation will arise that places us in a position to be used by the Lord. It may be an action or a word, but somehow we will know it was a divine encounter.
I remember such a situation many years ago. I was shopping in a warehouse store and observed a woman with a son and daughter. I was grieved at the way the mother spoke harshly to her daughter. The girl was trying her best to help and all she received was belittling comments from her mother.
I felt the best thing I could do was smile at the little girl. Aisle after aisle we would pass one another and each time I would smile at her. At the checkout stand each customer had to bag their own groceries. The little girl was bagging for her family while her older brother just lounged around. Suddenly the girl came over to my area and began to bag my groceries. I began to brag on her and told her I could just imagine how proud her mother must be to have such a helpful daughter. I can still recall her waving to me as they left the store.
How will God use you today? As far as we know, Ananias was used only one time in his life. That one time was significant. Be alert and ready to touch a life today! All we need to do is trust and obey. "
May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“SOFTLY AND TENDERLY!”
Revelation 3:20
Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.
This beautiful hymn was composed by Will Thompson who lived from 1847 to 1909. The words seem to capture the heart of the listener and draw us to come to Jesus. You can almost picture Jesus Himself standing patiently urging us to come to Him.
He not only pleads for us to come, but he offers complete pardon to anyone and everyone who will come to Him. He offers He has paid the price and He has the authority to extend pardon to any who will come to Him.
The words of this hymn stress the urgent need of those who are lost. Some may feel like they have time before making that decision, but sadly for many they wait too long. Now is the hour of decision to receive Christ’s mercy and pardon!

SOFTLY AND TENDERLY

1. Softly and tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling for you and for me;
See, on the portals He’s waiting and watching, watching for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home. You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home.

2. Why should we tarry when Jesus is pleading; pleading for you and for me?
Why should we linger and heed not His mercies; mercies for you and for me?

Refrain: Come home, come home. You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home.

3. Time is now fleeting, the moments are passing, passing from you and for me.
Shadows are gathering, deathbeds are coming, coming for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home. You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home.

4. O, for the wonderful love He has promised, promised for you and for me!
Though we have sinned, He has mercy and pardon, pardon for you and for me.

Refrain: Come home, come home. You who are weary come home;
Earnestly, tenderly, Jesus is calling, calling, O sinner, come home.

SPECIAL MESSAGE: Pastor Cecil Good morning, Pastor Cecil!

SPECIAL MESSAGE: Pastor Cecil Good morning, Pastor Cecil!

From: Denny and Cammi Sent:

Pastor Cecil Good morning, Pastor Cecil!

Three days a week, our 5-year-old granddaughter comes in the morning to stay the day with us while her daddy, a widower, goes to work. She has learned to do something quiet while I listen to the daily Bible reading. She's here now, and I just finished listening. After the reading was finished, she said "I sure like to listen to Pastor Cecil!"

Have a great day! Denny Ellis Nampa, Idaho

“REQUIREMENTS!”
 Micah 6:8
“He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?”
I can still recall my days in college and graduate school when I was faced with completing the required courses. It always seemed that those subjects were the ones that were the most difficult for me. I could never figure out why the optional classes always seemed easier.
There are many people in some churches today that feel they have a “right” to pick and choose which of God’s commands to follow. I find that offensive to the truth of the Word of God and in conflict with His nature. God has given us some imperatives that must be followed. They are His requirements.

I love what the Old Testament prophet Micah makes clear to us. He points out that God has shown us what is good and what He requires of us. So what are His requirements? TO DO JUSTLY – TO LOVE MERCY – TO WALK HUMBLY WITH OUR GOD.

How would you rate your fulfillment of God’s requirements? What will you have to change in your life to be in compliance with them? When will you begin the process? Remember, his burden is light when He is at your side helping you carry the load.

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“TRANQUILITY!”
 2 Corinthians 12:10
“Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
Almost on a daily basis we hear about a storm that has devastated some area of the world. Suddenly millions are without power and even more have had their world turned upside down.
What are you encountering in your life at this time?  Do you feel as if you are being churned in the middle of a storm?  What will it take to bring peace and tranquility to your heart?
The apostle Paul experienced the storms of life. He was lashed, beaten with rods, stoned, shipwrecked, stranded at sea, and suffered rejection, yet he endured them with a joy that can only come from the Lord. Tranquility is not that the storms will always be calm, but that we will find peace in the middle of the storms.
Wow!  That is powerful and provides the answer for us to find tranquility in the most violent of storms.  It is not what we have done or must do—it is what Christ has already done for us. He brings tranquility in the storms of life. As we cast all our cares on Him, He will give us His peace and rest.
May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“A STIFF NECK!”
Psalm 75:5
Do not lift up your horn on high; do not speak with a stiff neck.

What an unusual phrase ... "a stiff neck."  In the NIV it is rendered "an outstretched neck." Regardless of the words used, it denotes an attitude of insolent pride. One place where insolent pride is often on display is at sporting events as we often observe the athletes with outstretched necks parading back and forth like proud peacocks.

But that is nothing compared to the picture of those arrogant boasters who, in their pride, stand opposed to God.  These people may claim to be wise, but wisdom is in their own eyes and God will have the last word. Oh, how much better it would be if they would turn from their arrogance and honor God.

It is sad that some people display a pompous attitude toward God. They seem to feel that their rejection of God proves that there is no God. How ridiculous.  It only proves that they do not believe in God!

Let me close for today with this passage in Proverbs 3:5-6, which is the best way to steer clear of having an outstretched neck: "Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight."

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“KISS (keep it simple sweetie)!”
I Corinthians 1:27
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty.”

If you ever feel that you are not smart enough, or popular enough, or from the right kind of family to do God's work in an effective manner, read today's Scripture passage once again.  Who does God choose?  The foolish and the weak -- that describes me!

Jesus did not teach on a theological level, yet His clear and simple teaching has confounded doctors of theology across the centuries. He was the creator of the world, yet His ministry was extremely simple.

He did not intend for people to be mentally brilliant in order to know Him personally.  It was and always has been this simple: Jesus loves me, this I know, for the Bible tells me so

You notice in the acronym KISS that I stated it differently than we ordinarily see it.  It is not Keep It Simple Stupid but Keep It Simple Sweetie!  We do not need to demean one another with words that insult, but let us encourage each other with words that convey love and respect!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“DOES JESUS CARE?”
I Peter 5:6-7
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that He may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

 There have been times in my life when I felt isolated and alone. When I experienced these times of spiritual drought I was prone to wonder if Jesus really cared. Even though I am usually happy and optimistic, I have felt the enemy of my soul attack. It is during these times that I rush to God’s Word for comfort. Frank E. Graeff was known as the “sunshine minister.” He had a cheery disposition, a winsome personality, spiritual optimist, and was a great friend of children. He was known to have a child-like faith. That being said, he did pass through times of deep trials. It was then that he turned to the Scriptures as his guide in the darkness. As I read the words of this hymn that he wrote, I can see the change from gloom and despair to hope and victory. That is what I want in my life.

DOES JESUS CARE?

Does Jesus Care? - GloryScapes Comfort from GloryScapes on Vimeo.
1) Does Jesus care when my heart is pained; Too deeply for mirth or song,
As the burdens press, and the cares distress, And the way grows weary and long?
Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.
2) Does Jesus care when my way is dark; with a nameless dread and fear?
As the daylight fades into deep night shades, does He care enough to be near?
Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.
3) Does Jesus care when I’ve tried and failed, to resist some temptation strong;
When for my deep grief there is no relief, though my tears flow all the night long?
Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.
4) Does Jesus care when I’ve said “goodbye” to the dearest on earth to me,
And my sad heart aches till it nearly breaks—is it aught to Him? Does He see?
Refrain: Oh, yes, He cares, I know He cares,
His heart is touched with my grief;
When the days are weary, the long nights dreary,
I know my Savior cares.

“STEADFAST!”
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
When the going gets tough, the tough get going! Have you ever heard that popular expression? Do you think that is true? What about when you are not tough and confess your weakness? That is when you let go and let God be God through you!
Sometimes people fail to act because they feel they are unqualified. The fact of the matter is that many great people are not that different from anyone else. The only difference is that they remained steadfast at their task.
Thomas Edison experimented with over 10,000 substances before discovering the answer in tungsten. After 9,999 attempts, the story goes that a reporter asked him if he was going to go on after so many failures. Edison's response was that he had not had any failures. He had only discovered 9,999 substances that would not do the job.

Being steadfast for the Lord does not look at failure in the results we may see. It is in being the faithful servant that keeps on doing the work God has called each of us to do and leaving the results up to Him. Are you steadfast?

“CEASE FIRE!”
James 4:7
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.

I served in the military and was also a police officer. In both of those professions I had training experience on the firing range. I can still hear the words ringing out loud and clear: “Ready on the right? Ready on the left? Commence firing!” After a specified period of time the command was shouted: “Cease fire!”
During periods of war, combatants listened for the command to filter down that they were to “cease fire.” That meant they would no longer face the threat of enemy fire and would be heading home to family and friends. I still remember as a young boy seeing special editions of the newspapers with huge headlines that proclaimed “CEASE FIRE!"  A sense of joy swept the streets as people shouted out the news!
We are in a battle with the enemy of our souls. There will be times when we feel as if we cannot continue, but that is not an option for us. To paraphrase the words of Tennyson, "Ours is not to reason why. Ours is just to do or die."
There will come a time when we have made our last stand, and the Commander of the Lord’s Army will issue the order for us to cease fire. Until that time we need to stay at our post and do as He commands!
May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

“TRUE BEAUTY!”
Proverbs 31:30
“Charm is deceitful and beauty is passing, but a woman who fears the Lord, she shall be praised.”
My daughters would sometimes groan when I spoke of their mother as a Proverbs 31 woman. They would say, “Not the Proverbs 31 woman again!” But they would eventually confide that our precious Joyce fit the description.
We are constantly exposed to glossy depictions of very attractive men and women modeling to promote one product or another. The implication is that if you use that particular product, you too will look like the model. Beep! Ain’t gonna happen!
Many celebrities undergo multiple plastic surgeries to prolong the impression of youth, but in many cases they end up looking like they have just bit into a sour lemon. The beauty they seek is at best skin deep, and at worse an ugly scar.
True beauty is from within. When a person has true peace with God they will have the beautiful glow that no earthly cosmetic can duplicate. The next time you look into the mirror and observe more wrinkles or sags, slip into an easy chair and open God’s Word. Spend quality time with Him and allow Him to shape you into His glorious image that will never fade.
May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
