LED BY GOD!

Psalm 25:5 – Devotional

Psalm 25:5

“Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day.

As a boy we used to joke about impatience. I recall a classmate saying, “I don’t have any trouble with being patient. It is the waiting that I have trouble with!”

That is a problem isn’t it? Waiting is difficult so and so we feel we must be doing something wrong. We sadly all too often barge ahead of God and take action. The problem is that it is OUR action rather than HIS action. It’s almost like we feel we need to give God a little assistance.

The Psalmist sets us straight in the matter of patience. In today’s Scripture we are told to “WAIT ON THE LORD.” That does not mean to work like crazy doing good things in order to impress the Lord. It means relaxing and trusting that He will open the door He wants us to walk through when the time is right—not before!

If you are feeling weighed down and impatient waiting for the Lord to act upon your prayer request—STOP! Do not let yourself be burdened by seeing others prosper while you suffer. Rest in the Lord! He will call you when He is ready. That takes patience!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

WE ARE GOD’S WINNERS!

1 Corinthians 9:24 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 9:24

“All who run a race all run; but only one receives the winner’s prize. Let us run in such a way that we will obtain God’s prize He promises for all who run.

There are many types of races: Car races, horse races, foot races, just to name a few. It is interesting that in many races one competitor may lead throughout the race and victory is almost assured … but then comes the finish line and another takes first place!

Years ago I used to take our kids to watch automobile races at a local race track. It was not uncommon for one driver to lead almost every lap of the quarter mile track only to experience a problem on the final lap and lose the race. Only the one who crosses the finish line first is the winner not the one who leads the most laps.

I have been thrilled to watch foot races where the competitors have Down Syndrome. These precious jewels run with joy and excitement. Many times they are just as excited about someone else winning as themselves. When they cross the finish line each one is awarded a prize.

I somehow think that is what Paul wants us to understand. Every person in the world is entered in eternity’s race, but only those who have Christ in their heart will receive the prize. At the end of our race, the Lord will meet us and reward us for running for Him. We are God’s Winners!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

MOONLIGHT SONATA & WERE YOU THERE?

Matthew 27:54 – Devotional

Matthew 27:54

“Surely he was the Son of God!”

Matthew 27:35-54 reads . . .

When they had crucified him, they divided up his clothes by casting lots. And sitting down, they kept watch over him there. Above his head they placed the written charge against him: this is Jesus, the king of the Jews.

Two rebels were crucified with him, one on his right and one on his left. Those who passed by hurled insults at him, shaking their heads and saying, “You who are going to destroy the temple and build it in three days, save yourself! Come down from the cross, if you are the Son of God!” In the same way the chief priests, the teachers of the law and the elders mocked him. “He saved others,” they said, “but he can’t save himself! He’s the king of Israel! Let him come down now from the cross, and we will believe in him. He trusts in God. Let God rescue him now if he wants him, for he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’” In the same way the rebels who were crucified with him also heaped insults on him.

From noon until three in the afternoon darkness came over all the land. About three in the afternoon Jesus cried out in a loud voice, “Eli, Eli, lema sabachthani?” (which means “My God, my God, why have you forsaken me?”).

When some of those standing there heard this, they said, “He’s calling Elijah.”

Immediately one of them ran and got a sponge. He filled it with wine vinegar, put it on a staff, and offered it to Jesus to drink. The rest said, “Now leave him alone. Let’s see if Elijah comes to save him.”

And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, he gave up his spirit.

At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook, the rocks split and the tombs broke open. The bodies of many holy people who had died were raised to life. They came out of the tombs after Jesus’ resurrection and went into the holy city and appeared to many people.

When the centurion and those with him who were guarding Jesus saw the earthquake and all that had happened, they were terrified, and exclaimed, “Surely he was the Son of God!”

WE CAN TRUST GOD!

Psalm 111:7 – Devotional

Psalm 111:7

“The works of God’s hands are truth and justice: All His precepts are sure.

Sadly we live in a world where truth is held very lightly, if at all. To hear words spoken, such as; “Did we have that in writing?” reveal the lack of integrity that is a common commodity in our society.

We know that Satan is a liar and the father of lies. We only have to read through the Book of Job to discover the diabolical nature of this fallen angel. It seems to be beyond belief that he could be so absorbed to become like God that he would give it all over and face an eternity of anguish!

All around us we can observe people who give little or no thought about their eternal destiny. It is as if they are in a car headed for a high cliff with no signs to warn of the impending disaster if we do not caution them.

God has given His Word and all of creation to bring people to the safety of His glorious kingdom. Those of us who have responded now have the task of tell as many as possible the good news of the gospel. WE CAN TRUST GOD!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

NEVER FORGET GOD’S WORKS!

Psalm 111:4 – Devotional

Psalm 111:4

“God’s wonderful works are to be remembered. He is gracious and full of compassion.

When I set my mind to remember something, I frequently forget what it was I had set my mind to remember! Before you laugh, think of the times you may have been guilty of the same thing. I find that I am like the man who said he certainly believed in the “hereafter” because everywhere he went he asked; “What am I here after?”

In order to overcome this difficulty, I have taken to write notes to myself so I will not forget what I intended to recall. The problem with this strategy is that even my notes get misplaced or shuffled and so I still spend time, “searching for the lost!”

The one thing I never want to forget is God’s Word. My memory bank seems to be better at forgetting than remembering, but that does not keep me from reading and re-reading God’s precious Word.

God’s works are detailed in His Word and my delight is in discovering that in spite of my many failures, the Lord loves me with an eternal love. His love for each of us is not because we deserve it, but because we need it so desperately!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

CLOTHED IN GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS!

Psalm 111:3 – Devotional

Psalm 111:3

“God’s works are honorable and glorious and His righteousness endures forever.

When you make a purchase, you expect the item or items you buy to perform as promised and to last for the length of time expected. As we think of the promises Satan makes, that is never true. He is a liar and the father of lies, so his promises are always false and misleading.

As believers, as we begin each day we are faced with a choice. We can either clothe ourselves with the glorious garments of God’s righteousness or the tattered rags of Satan’s costume.

The garments of God’s righteousness come with an eternal guarantee to never spoil, fade or pass away. In fact we are promised that they will shine as bright as the sun throughout the years of eternity.

In sad contrast, the tattered rags offered by the enemy of our souls will offer no protection from the flames of hell that await those who fail to be clothed in God’s righteousness. Make sure that you and those around you are properly clothed in God’s righteousness while there is still time!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S WORKS ARE GREAT!

Psalm 111:2 – Devotional

Psalm 111:2

“The works of the LORD are great, studied by all who take pleasure in them.

When I think of the word “great” I can’t help but think of the breakfast cereal tiger, who expresses his pleasure with the cereal as being great. In contrast to this enthusiastic exclamation, far too many Christians treat God’s words casually.

I was trying to think of another word to express the indifference many people show toward the Word and His works, but it is too depressing to observe how little many believers care about the word that some have died to proclaim.

None of us know what trials and tribulations await us in the future, but the one thing I know is that God is sufficient for the trials. I have stood at the bedside of my closest family members and watched as they slipped into paradise with the Lord. I can testify that God is great and good to comfort our heavy heart!

Regardless of the situation you are facing at this moment, I am here to tell you that you can always trust in God. He will support and sustain the heaviest heart and bring a joyous song in the night to those who rely on Him! All we have to do is look up and realize that His works are truly great!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
