REAL LIFE!

James 4:14 – Devotional

James 4:14

We are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.

I survived another Christmas with only a few pangs. At this season I always recall being with my wife Joyce and our family on Christmas as being a very special day. Joyce and I spent every Christmas together except in 1966 when I was on a remote assignment in St. Anthony, Newfoundland, Canada.

During that Christmas season I was broken up by one song lyric that went; “I’ll be home for Christmas, if only in my dreams.” The year 2016 was my first Christmas without Joyce, but her first Christmas with Jesus. SHE HAD A BETTER CELEBRATION THAN I DID!

I recall the days before Joyce went to be with the Lord. Joyce had just been placed on Hospice Care due to her dementia. She was in a hospital bed in our living room. I was not sure if she understood about her condition, but I spent hours beside her bed holding her hand and sharing my love with her.

When my precious wife took her last breath it was her entry into everlasting life. No more confusion or pain for my sweetheart. She received the reward of eternal life — IT IS REAL LIFE BEYOND OUR IMAGINATION. I can hardly wait!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

PAY ATTENTION!

Revelation 3:2 – Devotional

Revelation 3:2

Pay attention and strengthen the things that you still have, that are about to die, for I find your works imperfect in the sight of God.

Several years ago my wife Joyce and I were stopped at a traffic light when we saw our newspaper delivery man about to enter the intersection. He saw us and waved just as he was entering the intersection. Joyce and I both immediately shouted, “Watch Out!”

Naturally he could not hear us. What we saw, and that he failed to see because he was waving to us, was a stopped vehicle just ahead of him. There was a crunch of metal as he collided with the other car. He was not traveling very fast so there were no injuries.

That particular mishap has always reminded me that it is vital to keep our attention on what is going on around us. In today’s Scripture we have the warning from the Lord to be watchful and to strengthen the spiritual things that will count for eternity.

As we read the messages the Lord gives in Revelation 2 & 3 to each of the seven churches, it is interesting that He says He knows their works. That is just as true for us today as it was for the churches in that day. Here is our question: Are we paying attention to God’s Word?

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GO TELL IT ON THE MOUNTAIN!

Luke 2:16-18 – Devotional

Luke 2:16-18

“. . . They . . . found Mary and Joseph, and the baby, who was lying in the manger. When they had seen him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this child, and all who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

A well-produced, short, animated “Christmas movie” is The Very First Noel and features the voice of Andy Griffith narrating. At one point in the video, the shepherds exclaim in excitement, “Who ever thought we’d be invited? . . . We’ll tell it here, we’ll tell it there, we’ll tell it everywhere . . . “ May we be as excited to accept the invitation and proclaim our Savior’s birth.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

Go Tell It On the Mountain

Over silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens,
There shone a holy light:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

The shepherds feared and trembled
When lo! above the earth
Rang out the angel chorus
That hailed our Savior’s birth:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

Down in a lowly manger
Our humble Christ was born
And God send us salvation,
That blessed Christmas morn:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

When I am a seeker,
I seek both night and day;
I seek the Lord to help me,
And He shows me the way:
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

He made me a watchman
Upon the city wall,
And if I am a Christian,
I am the least of all.
Go, Tell It On The Mountain,
Over the hills and everywhere;
Go, Tell It On The Mountain
That Jesus Christ is born.

AN ORDER TO PRAISE THE LORD!

Psalm 103:1 – Devotional

Psalm 103:1

Praise the LORD, O my soul: and all that is within me praise His holy name.

I have loved Psalm 103 for many years. It seems to be an intimate glimpse of David in his private time of worship. Do you have a private time of worship? If not I highly recommend that you establish such a time.

In the hustle and bustle of our crazy world we can usually carve out time for things that really do not matter, while neglecting things that have eternal value. Personal praise and worship should be our highest priority!

There are many things that we devote ourselves to that are here today and gone tomorrow. Our praise and worship to our precious Lord and Savior will echo down through the ages of eternity. Praise to God lasts forever!

Start today with praise to the Lord. Stop what you are doing right now and lift your soul in praise. I have just done that myself and believe me when I tell you that that short time of praise still echoes in my soul. PRAISE THE LORD!

Blessings dear hearts! Walk with God today and be a blessing!

JUST THE RIGHT TIME!

Galatians 4:4-5 – Devotional

Galatians 4:4-5

God has sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.

“I want it and I want it right now!” Those words are often screamed out by a spoiled child who has not been properly trained. Well, let me be honest and admit that many adults exhibit that same behavior, if not in those exact words.

In my 88 years of life I have experienced disappointment when my requests were not met at the time I asked for them. But, the things that I thought I had to have at a particular time would have been to my detriment (or to others) if my timing was met. I have come to realize that God’s timing is always better than mine.

God knew when the time was right for His Son, Jesus, to be born. There were those who wanted it far sooner and others who still deny that Jesus is the promised Messiah of Israel who came, IN THE FULLNESS OF TIME!

God has all things under control. We need to submit to His loving care and allow His fullness of time to become our fullness of time as well. Even Jesus submitted to His Father’s will when He prayed, “… not My will but Thine be done” (Luke 22:42). God knows when it is; JUST THE RIGHT TIME!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
