USE ME LORD!

2 Timothy 4:2 – Devotional

2 Timothy 4:2

“Preach the word! Be ready in season and out of season. Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching.”

Sometimes God uses dire circumstances as a means of ministry. A missionary was rushed to a hospital with a ruptured appendix. While recuperating in a two-bed room, he was able to share a witness with his roommate in the other bed and lead him to the Lord.

During the cold war years there were many Christians who were imprisoned due to their belief in Jesus Christ. Rather than collapsing in a heap and feeling sorry for themselves, many used prison as an opportunity to preach the gospel.

In my own life I have endured occasional tests and trials. As I surrendered each situation to the Lord, He opened doors of ministry that could never have opened in any other way. It is not necessary for us to be perfect before He can use us—just forgiven. It is not necessary for us to complete a course of study to be used—just available. It is not necessary for us to be of a certain age to be used—just willing.

You may be enduring trials and tests right now. Please do not allow what you are experiencing to paralyze you from being used. Step forward and volunteer to serve in God’s army. Neither age nor physical limitations will disqualify. “God doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called.”

Blessings dear hearts. Draw near to God today and be a blessing!

BENEATH THE CROSS OF JESUS!

1 Corinthians 1:18 – Devotional

1 Corinthians 1:18

“For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

The second verse of the hymn, Beneath the Cross of Jesus says, “Upon that cross of Jesus mine eye at times can see the very dying form of One who suffered there for me; and from my stricken heart with tears two wonders I confess: the wonders of redeeming love and my unworthiness.”

Here are all the lyrics for verses 1 and 3:

Beneath the cross of Jesus
I fain would take my stand,
the shadow of a mighty Rock
within a weary land;
a home within the wilderness,
a rest upon the way,
from the burning of the noontide heat
and the burden of the day.

I take, O cross, thy shadow
for my abiding place:
I ask no other sunshine than
the sunshine of his face;
content to let the world go by,
to know no gain nor loss;
my sinful self my only shame,
my glory all the cross.

. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .

AUTHENTIC WISDOM!

Proverbs 10:23 – Devotional

Proverbs 10:23

“It is as sport to a fool to do mischief: but a man of understanding hath wisdom.”

“He thinks he’s such a wise guy!” Most of us have heard this expression to describe a person who behaves in a thoughtless manner while seemingly thinking it does not matter how his actions may adversely affect others.

The older I get, the more sensitive I become to how easy it is to cause pain to those around us. Our words or even expressions may turn someone’s day on its end and crush their spirit.

As faithful followers of the Lord Jesus Christ we should make it our aim to build others up rather than leave them feeling crushed and in despair. I know from personal experience what it is like to be taunted and rejected. As a counselor I discovered that many, if not most people that we come in contact with throughout the day are dealing with feelings of inadequacy.

As followers of Jesus we should make it our aim to build others up rather than tearing them down. We should make it our primary aim to encourage the disappointed and lift the fallen in spirit. Authentic wisdom is to share the Real Hope of the world which is Jesus and His saving blood to give us eternal salvation!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

LET GOD BE EXALTED!

Psalm 57:5 – Devotional

Psalm 57:5

“Be exalted, O God, above the heavens; Let Your glory be above all the earth.”

Day in and day out many people strive to push themselves to the front of whatever line they are in. It may be in the family, at work, in politics, even in the church. It is tragic that so many believers spend time exalting themselves rather than God.

How do we go about exalting God? That is a question we should be asking ourselves from early morning to the last thing at night. Our chief aim in life should be to bring honor and glory to His name.

We start this process by starting each day with the Lord. The first words we read should be for the Bible and the final words before we drift into slumber should be from that same life-giving source.

We need to always remind ourselves that the things of this earth are fading away and the things of eternity must be our primary aim. This world is like a tent in the wild that may offer temporary shelter, but it is not our home. As we exalt the name of our Lord and Savior, we allow Him to lift us above the troubles and trials of this world to catch a glimpse of the glory that awaits us!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!

GOD’S (IF) CONDITIONS!

Leviticus 26:12 – Devotional

Leviticus 26:12

“I will walk among you, and will be your God, and you will be My people.”

All too often we read the promises of God and neglect the conditions that He gives us in order to receive the promises. Like excited children at the sight of candy, we jump up and down in anticipation without considering the conditions.

Leviticus 26:3 provides the conditions that must be met before we can count on the promised reward. “If you walk in My statutes, and keep My commandments, and do them.”

If we walk the aisles of a grocery store and fill our basket with various items, we know that there will come a moment when we stand at the checkout stand and are presented with the cost of our selections.

As we walk the pathways of life we also are making selections. Some may be small and look insignificant, but at the checkout counter we realize the cost is greater than we anticipated. It is then that we feel a hand on our shoulders and a sweet voice in our ear; “I have paid the price! Go in peace!” Wow! What a wonderful God we serve! He does not give us what we deserve, but what we need!

May God richly bless you as you bless others by your words and actions!
